There are three levels of Inspection Licensing in Texas:

  1. Apprentice Inspector – Candidate must be 18 years of age, a Texas resident and have a Professional Real Estate Inspector sponsor.
  2. Real Estate Inspector – Candidate must successfully complete 90 hours of core real estate inspection courses, serve as an Apprentice Inspector for at least 3 months, have a Professional Real Estate Inspector sponsor, perform 25 inspections under direct supervision and pass the state exam.
  3. Professional Real Estate Inspector – Candidate must successfully complete 448 classroom hours of core real estate inspection courses and pass the state exam.  For additional qualifying options, please visit http://www.trec.state.tx.us/inspector/professional_inspector_app.asp

Required Experience [Back to Top]

All applicants must be citizens of the United States or a lawfully admitted alien of Texas at the time application is filed, sponsored by a licensed professional inspector, at least 18 years of age, found to be honest, trustworthy, possessing integrity (Background Investigation through DPS).
