Applicants for a real estate associate brokers license in New Mexico must have completed 90 hours of instruction in approved real estate courses, specifically 30 hours in Real Estate Law, 30 hours in Real Estate Principles & Practices and 30 hours in Broker Basics. All 90 hours must be completed prior to taking the licensing exam. We also suggest you attend our 16-hour State Exam Preparation course.

Real Estate Law, Real Estate Principles & Practices, and Broker Basics must all be completed prior to taking the state exam. If you are completing the program via correspondence all course work must be completed and turned in to our office prior to taking the state exam.
PSI administers the New Mexico Real Estate Licensing Exam in Albuquerque, Farmington, Las Cruces, Roswell and Santa Fe. They also offer the New Mexico exam in Durango, CO., Amarillo, TX, El Paso, TX, Lubbock, TX, and Midland, TX. Additionally, PSI has examination centers in many other regions across the United States. You may take this exam at any of these locations by call PSI and talk to a Customer Service Rep to schedule outside of New Mexico.
The exam is multiple-choice, and is divided into two separate portions. The 80-question "Broker National" portion, you must answer at least 60 correct questions in order to receive a passing grade and you have 120 minutes to complete this section. The 50-question " Broker State" portion, you must answer at least 38 correct questions in order to receive a passing grade and you have 60 minutes to complete this section.
The Eligibility/Examination Registration Form, with the appropriate exam fee and all supporting documents, must be submitted to PSI. The Eligibility/Examination Registration Form may be mailed or faxed. Upon approval by PSI, you will be sent and Eligibility Postcard including instructions for scheduling the examination. The Eligibility/Examination Registration Form will expire 1 year from the date PSI receives the original submission.
You may cancel and reschedule an examination appointment without forfeiting your fee if you cancellation notice is received 2 days prior to the scheduled examination date.
On the day of the examination, you should arrive at least 30 minutes before your appointment. If you arrive late, you may not be admitted to the examination site and you will forfeit your examination registration fee.
Your official score report is delivered immediately upon completion of the exam.

Applicants for a New Mexico Associate Broker License must:
If you are currently licensed as a salesperson or broker in another state, some of these requirements may be amended. Please contact the New Mexico Real Estate Commission for details.
An Associate Broker is licensed to act on behalf of a Qualifying Broker, and may not act as a real estate agent independently. An Associate Broker may only work for one Qualifying Broker in New Mexico at a time. The Associate Broker's license is mailed to the employing Qualifying Broker, and must remain in the Qualifying Broker's possession until it is canceled or the Associate Broker leaves the Qualifying Broker's employment. New Mexico does not require an applicant for an Associate Broker's license to have a high school diploma or college degree. There is also no state residency requirement.
You may apply for a license with the New Mexico Real Estate Commission after you have passed both the national and state specific examinations. To apply for a license, you must complete and mail the License Application Form for Associate Brokers, required documentation and appropriate fee(s) to the New Mexico Real Estate Commission. License applicants must apply within 6 months of passing their examination. The Real Estate Commission requires all applicants previously or currently licensed in real estate in another state or states to submit a license history verification from that state(s) licensing agency. All active real estate brokers are required to have errors and omission insurance. Licensees may obtain insurance from the Real Estate Commissions contract insurance carrier, Rice Insurance Services, or from another carrier provided the carrier certifies to the Commission that their coverage is equivalent to the contract program. License applicants will have 30 days from the date of their application to provide proof of errors and omissions insurance to the Commission.
