Required Education [Back to Top]

All licensed real estate professionals, except those at least 65 years of age and continuously licensed for 20 years, are required to complete 30 hours of Continuing Education courses every three years. This includes 8 hours of the Mandatory course and 22 additional hours of New Mexico Real Estate Commission-approved courses.

Commission approved courses will be categorized and granted as follows:

Education - a minimum of 12 credit hours per three-year cycle. No one course can provide more than 10 hours of credit. All 22 credit hours can be taken in the education category.

Training - a maximum of 10 credit hours per three-year cycle, with allowable credit hours determined by the Commission.

The NMREC Mandatory Course is an 8-hour course that presents an overview of major areas with which a licensee should be familiar. Every licensee must take this course, in person, during each three year cycle. A written exam must be taken after the class. Licensees will need to complete this class, then call the testing company and schedule a test in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Farmington, Roswell or Las Cruces. In some cases, the exam can be taken out of state. Exam cost will be $95 in addition to the cost of the class.

All Qualifying Brokers must take the new Qualifying Broker Refresher Course to renew their real estate license every 3 years. Even if a Qualifying Broker is exempt under the 65 years old and 20 years actively licensed rule, they must take this course. This course does not give you any CE credit hours toward your 30-hour renewal requirement.

Students will not be admitted to any live CE classes 5 minutes after the start time.
