Colorado requires you to successfully complete a state-mandated 168-hour associate broker education program in order to be eligible to sit for the actual real estate broker licensing exam. The Real Estate Associate Broker Licensing Process: A Step-By-Step Guide

Step 1: Register for the Success Package

Step 2: Read the User’s Guide and Get Started!

Once you enroll in a classroom or home study program, we will ship you your books. The very first thing to do is ready the User’s Guide included with your materials. This will explain everything you need to know to get the most out of the program. If you’re taking the program online, you’ll receive an email with instructions for accessing the online lecture series. Log in and watch the orientation.

Step 3: Finger Printing & Background Check

Before the Colorado Real Estate Commission will grant you a license to sell real estate, they require to first submit a set of fingerprints to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in order for CBI and the FBI to perform a routine criminal history background check. Since it can take several weeks for CBI and the FBI to complete this process once they receive your fingerprints, you should start early. It is not unusual to begin this process before you have started reading your first module prior to attending your first class. Come by our Denver location to get fingerprinted today. Walk in fingerprinting hours are 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM each weekday.

Step 4: Complete the Success Package

Work your way through our program. Use the results on your exams throughout the program and especially in Exam Prep to determine when you are ready to take the actual licensing exam. With more than 1,000 questions throughout the program, our comprehensive exams and explanations pinpoint your strong & weak areas and help you focus your preparation on areas that need it most. Locations and Exam Days

The testing service called PSI administers the Colorado Associate Broker Licensing Exam at six Colorado locations. More information about PSI may be found at their website www.psiexams.com.

Length of the Exam

The National portion of the actual licensing exam is 120 minutes in duration and consists of 80 multiple choice questions plus several unscored “experimental” questions. The State portion of the examination is 110 minutes in duration and consists of 74 multiple choice questions plus several unscored “experimental” questions.

Exam Center Fees

The fee to take the exam is $71 (for both portions)

Rescheduling / Canceling information

Reschedule 2 days in advance by 5:00 PM Pacific Standard Time.

Cancel 2 days in advance by 5:00 PM Pacific Standard Time.

Schedule 1 day in advance by 4:00 PM Pacific Standard Time.

PSI offers several ways to register for the exam, including over the phone, online registration, by mail, and via fax.

ONLINE REGISTRATION

You may register for an exam online by creating an account with PSI at their website www.psiexams.com. You will be prompted with step-by-step instructions on how to reserve your exam date and location.

FAX REGISTRATION

You may register for an exam by faxing the Fax Reservation Form found in the Real Estate Candidate Handbook. The Fax number for this form is 1-702-932-2666. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The completed form should be faxed at least 4 business days before the desired exam date. A confirmation of the reservation will be returned by fax within 24 hours of receipt of the faxed request.

While your test reservation may be made as few as three business days prior to an exam, your chances of getting the date and location of your choice increase the further in advance you register.

What does the exam look like?

The exam is divided into two separate portions. The National portion has 80 multiple-choice questions, and the State portion has 74 multiple-choice questions. You have 2 hours for the National portion and 1 hour 50 minutes to complete the state portion of the exam and must score approximately 75% or better on each portion to pass.

The exam is administered on a PC with a standard mouse and keyboard. The PC eliminates the use of paper and pencil answer sheets.

What should I bring with me to the exam?

  • A Certificate of Eligibility showing you have successfully completed the education requirements.
  • 2 forms of identification with signatures (one must be a government-issued photo identification)
  • The confirmation number provided when the reservation was made
  • Calculators are NOT permitted to be brought into the exam. A calculator will be provided.

When can I expect my exam results?
Your official score report is delivered immediately upon completion of the exam.

An applicant for a Colorado Associate Broker's license must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Complete 168 hours of Commission-approved licensing real estate education, and receive proof of this education from their school (form REC 33).
  • Pass both the National and State portions of the Colorado Broker Licensing Exam.
  • Within one year of passing the Colorado Broker Licensing Exam, submit a Broker’s License Application (provided by the Colorado Real Estate Commission) and all supporting documentation, including a fingerprint form. An employing broker must sign the application, and proof of Errors and Omissions Insurance must also be provided. Lastly, the license fees must be paid in full.
