Salesperson Licensing
Requirements to Obtain a Salesperson's License:

  1. Be at least 21 years old. If between the ages of 18-21, exceptions do apply. Please contact Kaplan Real Estate Schools at 1-800-636-9517 for details.
  2. Have graduated from high school or obtained the equivalent of a high school degree (GED).
  3. Have successfully completed the 45-hour Real Estate Transactions course.
  4. Have successfully passed both the Illinois and National portions of the AMP Salesperson Real Estate Exam.
  5. Have completed, signed and submitted the licensing application provided by the Illinois Real Estate Division along with the required fee of $125.00.

Broker Licensing
Educational Requirements to Obtain a Broker's License:

  1. Be at least 21 years old. If between the ages of 18-21, exceptions do apply. Please contact Kaplan Real Estate Schools at 1-800-636-9517 for details.
  2. Have graduated from high school or obtained the equivalent of a high school degree (GED).
  3. Have successfully completed 120 credit hours in the following manner:
    1. 45 credit hours for a Real Estate Transactions course
    2. 15 credit hours for a Brokerage Administration course
    3. 15 credit hours for Contracts and Conveyances
    4. 15 credit hours of mandatory course work as established by the Education Advisory Council and the Division
    5. Credit for the remaining 30 class hours may be obtained by completing at least two of the following courses listed:
      1. Appraisal
      2. Property Management
      3. Financing
      4. Sales and Brokerage
      5. Farm Property Management
      6. Real Property Insurance
  4. Have successfully passed both the Illinois and National portions of the AMP Broker Real Estate Exam.
  5. Have completed, signed and submitted the licensing application provided by the Illinois Real Estate Division along with the required fee of $125.00.

Salesperson CE
All Salespersons are required to complete the Illinois continuing education requirement between May 1, 2007 and April 30, 2009.

The requirement varies depending on:

  1. If the Salesperson was licensed on or before April 30, 2007 - 12 hours of CE is required to include:
    1. 6 hours of core/mandatory courses
    2. 6 hours of elective courses
  2. If the Salesperson was licensed between May 1, 2007 and April 30, 2008 - 6 hours of CE is required to include:
    1. 3 hours of core/mandatory courses
    2. 3 hours of elective courses
  3. If the Salesperson was licensed on or after May 1, 2008 - No CE is required for this renewal.

Broker CE
All Brokers are required to complete the Illinois continuing education requirement between May 1, 2008 and April 30, 2010.

The requirement varies depending on if you were:

  1. Licensed as a Broker on or before 4/30/2008, Or Brokers previously licensed as a Salesperson - 18 hours of CE is required to include:
    1. 6 hours core /mandatory courses
    2. 6 hours of the Broker Management course
    3. 6 hours elective courses
  2. Licensed as a Broker between 5/1/2008 and 4/30/2009, if NOT previously licensed as a Salesperson - 12 hours of CE is required to include:
    1. 6 hours of the Broker Management course
    2. 3 hours core/mandatory courses
    3. 3 hours elective courses
  3. Licensed as a Broker on or after 5/1/2009 and not previously licensed as a Salesperson – 6 hours of CE is required to include:
    1. 6 hours of the Broker Management course

    NOTE: Newly licensed Brokers must take the Broker Management Course within 180 days of receiving their license

Post-Licensing
The state of Illinois does not require post-licensing education.
